Profile of an Institution in himself : Shri Hukam Chand Bansal
April 5th, 1949
Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab
A great visionary is born to Shri Om Parkash Bansal and Smt. Jaswanti Devi. This little child (now Shri Hukam Chand Bansal) would one day stand tall and with him would stand equally tall edifices of knowledge! Would one day be a creator of employment and opportunities for the society; a philanthropist with zeal and enthusiasm; a kind-hearted and foresighted individual; a sportsman, an industrialist of repute, and a great visionary; a person whose midas touch would lead to a series of successful and enviable ventures. A high order stalwart in brief.

Chiefly known as a Steel Industrialist of renown Shri Hukam Chand Bansal has tasted enviable success vis-a-vis his Industries spread across both Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab and Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir. However, apart from Industries a number of educational Institutions have seen the light of the day because of his entrepreneurial skills and passion.
He established the Shri Om Parkash Bansal Educational and Social Welfare Trust in 1998 and made his debut with in an altogether virgin domain - Education. An industrialist’s transition into education generally taken to imply profiteering motives, has been proved wrong for through his vision of
“imparting quality education and producing society worthy individuals in addition to providing a productive work culture and conducive environment for the teachers and the taught, matched by unparalleled infrastructure and an insatiable urge to, in excellence, outdo ourselves . . . .”
He has carved out a niche for himself chiefly as a society advancing and society contributing individual. Little wonder Shri Hukam Chand Bansal’s efforts to build the educational sector in a way so different has resulted in his ventures, in a short span, having become
‘a brand in, and a competition unto, themselves’
Numerous quality ridden Institutes bear testimony to this fact :
The principal brainchild, and perhaps the favourite, of the visionary Chairman has been Shri Om Parkash Bansal Senior Secondary School, named after his late father Shri Om Parkash Bansal. Established in 1998 it caters to the needs of many school going siblings of Punjab.
His Trust’s second Institute - the RIMT-Institute of Management and Computer Technology - was established in 2001 and became a household name and a sought after institute for its stances of recruiting the best faculty, and attracting an intake of best of students both from within and outside the region. Quality, first and foremost, has perhaps been consciously strived and has resulted in being the driving force of his endeavours one and aplenty, beating all competition.
The year 2003 saw the setting up of RIMT-Institute of Engineering and Technology offering B.Tech, MBA and MCA courses; a high profile faculty and dynamic student strength and a vibrant atmosphere, sprawling and activity buzzing lawns. Creativity per se as an additional dimension came about to ‘RIMT’ which by now had enough up its sleeve to feel proud about – through the opening of the RIMT College of Architecture in 2004.
Other features in the cap of RIMT have been the RIMT Polytechnic, running Diploma programmes in Engineering and RIMT College of Education which came up in 2005.
Among the plethora of look-like institutions scattered all across the entire state, RIMT has surely become a brand in itself. The RIMT-Maharaja Aggrasen Engineering College, came in 2007, RIMT School of Management Studies established in 2008 and the newest arrival in on the scene has been RIMT Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology.
Religious to the core the man’s steadfast devotion is exemplified through his managing the Ram Mandir and the Ram Bhavan and making provisions of all types of boarding, lodging and other facilities for social and religious work in his home town.
In addition, he is also a trustee of Parbhat Puri Hospital and Charitable Trust. He also holds the membership of Sales Tax Advisory Board, Government of Punjab.
Himself a keen enthusiast of Basketball, he is also encouraging the youth towards the game for he believes that the Punjabi people have got great talent and physique.
But the man doesn’t rest content. Fulfilling all the requisite criteria RIMT is gearing fast to become an autonomous University any moment. Given the convictions and managerial acumen and track record of the man it should happen anytime. What is appreciable is his adept managing of so much so well.
Intelligence and foresight and perseverance has held the key to the over whelming success of the man who continues to be highly respected, and admired by both his admirers and opponents. Sheer vision has resulted in the concretization and image that all his ventures - Industries and Institutions alike - have come to rightfully claim.
In totality, Shri Hukam Chand Bansal is a formidable, highly respected and admired image in Mandi Gobindgarh. A leader of integrity, compassionate and attentive to common people, an asset to the society and a widely respected being people see his wealth and reputation as a product of intelligence and foresight. Indeed, few can match his stature.
